THE LEGEND OF MULAN    •   3.05.15 - 3.08.15

China Arts and Entertainment Group proudly presents a new dance drama production The Legend of Mulan by the Hong Kong Dance Company, which will be performed at the David H. Koch Theater (Lincoln Center) from March 5-8. It is the first time that this spectacular production has ever been performed outside of China.
Told through the astonishing power of dance, The Legend of Mulan is about a peasant girl who disguises herself as a man to join the army in place of her aged father. She fought for a decade and gained high merit, but she gave up the reward of a position at court and retired to her hometown instead.The tale of such an iconic heroine has enchanted millions of people for centuries. It has also inspired a number of screen and stage adaptations, including an animated Disney movie released in 1998. And this new dance drama brings the story you know to life in a powerful, fascinating new way.

PAUL TAYLOR'S AMERICAN MODERN DANCE   •   3.10.15 - 3.29.15

Dancemaker Paul Taylor brings his renowned Company back in a fascinating new initiative: Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance. As always, Taylor presents his own world-renowned Company, which dances 17 of his classics plus a New York Premiere and World Premiere. But Taylor’s also presenting important works he admires by two other modern choreographers: Doris Humphrey’s rarely-seen Passacaglia, danced by Limón Dance Company, and Shen Wei’s riveting Rite of Spring, danced by Shen Wei Dance Arts. Orchestra of St. Luke’s will perform live throughout the season when intended by the choreographer. PTAMD is Taylor’s way of celebrating the past, enhancing the present and securing the future of modern dance, and ensuring that this homegrown American art form always has a home at Lincoln Center.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY IN CONCERT    •   4.08.15 - 4.12.15

For the first time ever in North America, the complete film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, will be presented live, in concert, April 8-12, 2015. Beneath a giant screen, the Academy Award-winning scores by Howard Shore will be performed by 250 musicians, on stage, including symphony orchestra, chorus and soloists. Two complete trilogies, Wednesday-Friday, April 8-10, and Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy In Concert, at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, features the 21st Century Orchestra of Lucerne, Switzerland, conducted by Ludwig Wicki, which specializes in bringing films and their scores to life, and performs an annual program of film concerts at the KKL Luzern.

YOUTH AMERICA GRAND PRIX    •   4.15.15 - 4.16.15

The Final Round on April 15th showcases the most promising students performing one last time before scholarships are awarded, and they leave to continue training or pursue jobs at the world’s leading dance institutions.  Following The Final Round, YAGP will present The Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow Gala on April 16th, a night of thrilling performances by leading dancers from the world’s most prominent companies (Stars of Today) alongside 2015 finalists (Stars of Tomorrow). The evening will feature the world premiere of Minuet in D Minor with choreography by Emery LeCrone, in addition to the New York premiere of Windy Sand with choreography by Alexei Kremnev, featuring an original score by Karen LeFrak and costumes designed by B Michael.  Don’t miss these spectacular evenings of dance!

THE ROYAL BALLET    •   6.23.15 - 6.28.15

The Joyce Theater Foundation is proud to present The Royal Ballet in its first New York appearance since 2004. The engagement opens with a gala performance of Frederick Ashton’s The Dream, featuring some of the choreographer’s “most quirkily beautiful choreography” (The Guardian, London). Inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the work will also appear on a program with Kenneth MacMillan’s Song of the Earth. The third program is a mixed bill devoted to Wayne McGregor’s Infra; Liam Scarlett’s The Age of Anxiety; and Divertissements, highlights from the company ’s repertory that include the central pas de deux from Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon’s Aeternum.
