SYLVIE GUILLEM 6000 MILES AWAY
4.04.12 – 4.07.12
Rearray
William Forsythe
Rearray is William Forsythe's fourth creation for Guillem, who performs this spellbinding duet with Teatro alla Scala Ballet sensation Massimo Murru. Consisting of thirteen provocatively disjointed sections, the work is performed to an equally fragmented score by American composer David Morrow, a long time Forsythe collaborator. The new duet interleaves a string of absorbing solos with intimate duets. With their limbs fully-stretched or folded into phrases, the dancers exhibit breathtakingly perfect control.
27'52"
Jiří Kyián
This impassioned duet, performed by dancers handpicked by Jiří Kyián, is an excerpt from the choreographer's 27'52", whose title refers to the running time of the complete piece. An haunting examination of the fragility and harsh beauty of human entanglements, the duet is performed to a mesmerizing score by German composer Dirk Haubrich.
Bye
Mats Ek
A superb closing for this remarkable evening, Bye is the perfect vehicle for appreciating the exceptional talents of Sylvie Guillem. In this funny, poignant solo set to Beethoven's last piano sonata, Ms. Guillem is dowdily dressed in a short skirt, loose cardigan, shoes and socks. Interacting with filmed images projected on a door-shaped screen, she looks like an awkward schoolgirl, who, through the course of the dance, evolves into an adult version of her former self.
