Symphonie Concertante

Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major, K. 364}
Set to Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E flat Major for Violin, Viola, and Orchestra K.364, Symphonie Concertante pairs two principal dancers with the solo violin and viola. A luminous, elegantly simple structure unfolds across this three-part ballet as the dancers weave in and out of the music in fluid, continuous dialogue.

Serenade after Plato's Symposium

Widely regarded as one of Ratmansky’s finest creations, this ballet remarkably transforms Plato’s sharp and witty discourse on love into an abstract exploration of key themes from his Symposium. In Plato’s original text, a group of men convene and deliver speeches on the topic of love, with each man bringing a unique perspective to the proceedings. Serenade after Plato’s Symposium explores how love can help the soul to understand truth in the pursuit of wisdom and beauty.

Chroma

Music by Joby Talbot and Jack White III}
Wayne McGregor’s Chroma explores the drama of the human body and its ability to communicate extremes of thought and emotion. The score, drawn from original music by Joby Talbot and his arrangements of music by The White Stripes, is combined with stark, minimalist designs by architect John Pawson. Against this backdrop is set the inventive and energy-driven choreography of Wayne McGregor.

Lady of the Camellias

A full-length narrative masterpiece, John Neumeier's sweeping adaptation of the tragic romance by Alexandre Dumas fils comes to life on the Koch Theater stage.

Lady of the Camellias takes audiences to 19th century Paris for a tale of deep heartbreak and even deeper love. The story centers on Marguerite Gautier, a French courtesan who falls in love with young Armand  Duval—but their class differences keep them apart. It is only after Marguerite dies of consumption that Armand realizes how much she truly loved him. Lady of the Camellias is adapted from the book of the same name by Alexandre Dumas fils and set to music by Frédéric Chopin.

Apollo

A landmark ballet by choreographer George Balanchine to the music of his close friend and colleague Igor Stravinsky, Apollo follows the young god as he is guided by the muses of poetry, mime, and dance into maturity and artistic clarity. With its sculptural simplicity, clean lines, and serene musicality, Apollo unfolds as a study in balance, order, and transformation.

Rhapsody pas de deux

One of Frederick Ashton’s final and most challenging works, Rhapsody pas de deux was created in 1980 for The Royal Ballet. Choreographed for Mikhail Baryshnikov and Lesley Collier, this pas de deux is dazzling in its expansive lyricism and emotional sweep. Set to Sergei Rachmaninoff’s beloved soaring score, “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini,” this ballet shows Ashton at his most masterful.

Nuages

Music by Claude Debussy}
One of Jiří Kylián’s earliest works, and one of his few danced in pointe shoes, Nuages is a seamless, daring pas de deux, unique in its humanity and intricate partnering. The challenging nature of the choreography is matched only by the demand of Debussy’s atmospheric score. This ballet is an invitation to enter the intimate world of this partnership.

In the Upper Room

One of the iconic ballets of the 20th century, Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room demands both raw power and extreme grace from its dancers. Bold kinetic movements blend with Philip Glass’s propelling score, and the marriage of choreography, music, costumes, and lighting creates a transcendent experience for both dancers and audience.

Return of John Neumeier’s Lady of the Camellias
Following the return of John Neumeier’s sweeping full‑length Lady of the Camellias gather for a celebratory toast. Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, and set to Frédéric Chopin’s exquisite music, join us to raise a glass to Neumeier’s poetic storytelling and the dancers who bring life and humanity to Marguerite and Armand’s tragic love. Separate toast ticket + performance ticket required.
